CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois University trustees are poised to choose a new chancellor to lead the Carbondale campus.

Just days after Moody's warned of a potential credit downgrade for Illinois' public universities, Standard & Poor's took action to lower the credit of a couple - and placed three on a negative watch list.

Southern Illinois University is cutting its men's and women's tennis programs and reducing scholarships for the men's swimming and diving teams.  The reductions come as SIU faces declining enrollment and the state remains without a budget. School officials say the move will save about $660,000 annually starting next school year. 

The president of Southern Illinois University says the school has decided not to become a sanctuary campus for students in the U.S. without legal permission.  SIU President Randy Dunn says the decision applies to the school's campuses in Carbondale and Edwardsville and its medical school in Springfield.

United National Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will deliver his last public lecture while in office at Southern Illinois University next week.  SIU officials say the secretary general will speak Wednesday at the Carbondale campus.

Moody's Investors Service will review the credit worthiness of seven Illinois universities after downgrading the state's credit to two levels above "junk" status this week.   Moody's announced that "reviews for downgrade" will proceed on the University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Governors State University, Northeastern Illinois University and Eastern Illinois University.

(AP) - Data provided by Southern Illinois University shows that the school's administrators have spent more than $180,000 on in-house chartered airplane flights over the past two years. According to the university's Department of Aviation Management and Flight, the two school-owned planes available for business use have shuttled staff members on more than 130 flights since July 1, 2013.
