An Illinois judge says a lawsuit filed by a sexual abuse victim against former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert can go forward.  The suit was filed in April by a man who contends the former Illinois Republican congressman owes him $1.8 million of the $3.5 million he was promised to stay silent about the abuse. Hastert's attorneys had asked the judge to dismiss the lawsuit.

If you watched last night's presidential debate on television... chances are you caught a glimpse of Illinois' senior U.S. Senator in the audience. But his title is not why cameras turned in Dick Durbin's direction.  Durbin says something was curious:

Activists are pushing for tougher laws on child sexual abuse in the wake of former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert's hush-money case that revealed he abused several high school students decades ago.

Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert was accompanied by one person as he wheeled himself into a Minnesota prison to start serving a sentence for his hush-money case.  Hastert wore a black shirt and camouflage pants as he guided his wheelchair into the complex in Rochester between high, razor-wire fencing. A woman followed him carrying crutches, a plastic bag and a brown box.

An Illinois state senator is urging the state to strip Dennis Hastert of the taxpayer-funded pension he receives from when he was state legislator.

Dennis Hastert's lawyers are questioning whether what the former U.S. House speaker did to a former wrestler to whom he agreed to pay $3.5 million was actually sexual abuse.

The Illinois House approved a measure that would give victims of sexual abuse up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave from work following the incident.

CHICAGO (AP) - A former Chicago priest who pleaded guilty to multiple child sex abuse charges in 2007 is due in court on more abuse allegations involving a boy while he was still a priest.  Daniel McCormack was arrested in 2014 in the 2005 case involving a 10-year-old alleged victim at a West Side parish.

Attorneys will also be in court Wednesday for a status hearing on his custody at a state mental health facility. McCormack remains committed under the Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act.

Cook County Circuit Judge Clare McWilliams ruled Tuesday that those who were sexual abuse victims of former priest Daniel McCormack after September 2000 can seek punitive damages from the archdiocese if their lawsuits proceed to trial.

A jury in Minnesota has awarded $8.1 million to a victim of sexual abuse by a Catholic priest. The priest previously worked in Peoria.

The unnamed victim claims Father James Vincent Fitzgerald molested him in 1978 while he was an altar boy in the Duluth Diocese.

The Ramsey County jury decided Wednesday that the diocese and a religious order were negligent in their supervision of Fitzgerald.

An Illinois appeals court has thrown out a South Peoria man's 2012 conviction on charges he sexually assaulted a 20-month-old girl.

An attorney says the Archdiocese of Chicago has reached a $1.25 million settlement with a man who claims he was sexually abused by a Catholic priest.
