The city of Pekin is closing off access to the riverfront after people continued to gather there in violation of the governor's stay-at-home order.

Peoria Police Chief Loren Marion said more people are going outside in groups as the weather warms up. But he's asking people to adhere the governor's stay-at-home-order.

A four-hour long standoff with the suspect in a pair of incidents over the weekend died Tuesday with his apparent suicide by gunshot in a North Valley home.

The Peoria Police Department is asking for the public's help to find a suspect considered armed and dangerous.

Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said he's working to reduce the number of inmates in close quarters at the jail in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell says he's seen an increase in domestic violence cases as people are forced to spend more time cooped up with each other in close quarters.

The 11th Judicial Circuit is immediately postponing hearings on most cases until further notice.

Chief Judge Mark Fellheimer ordered all cases postponed, with the exception of criminal felonies, juvenile abuse or neglect cases, juvenile delinquency, petitions to rescind summary petitions, and emergency orders.

People involved in all other types of cases are being asked not to appear in court. People will be notified of new court dates moving forward.

The 11th Judicial Circuit also includes McLean, Ford, Livingston, and Logan counties.

Tazewell County Sheriff Jeff Lower said a rural Delavan homeowner shot and killed a man in self-defense Thursday night.

Deputies received a disturbance call from a house on Boynton Road just after 8 p.m. The homeowner, Luke P. Taylor, reportedly heard someone yelling outside and went to investigate.

Lower said the man on his property, 41-year-old Daniel Williamson of San Jose, threatened Taylor, charged at him, and bit his face and head before the homeowner shot them.

State Police said Friday evening a wrong-way driver apparently caused a head-on fatal accident on Interstate 155 in Tazewell County. Troopers said the collision happened about 6:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes at Broadway Road between Morton and Tremont.

The Tazewell County Coroner has pronounced dead the driver of the vehicle that headed north in the southbound lanes. The driver of the other vehicle is at a Peoria hospital with life-threatening injuries, said troopers.

State police rerouted traffic away from 1-55 and onto Broadway Rd. for some hours.

Two teenagers face charges after police said they stole a car at gunpoint in South Peoria Monday night. 

Police said the victim agreed to give three males a ride from the 200 block of N. MacArthur. When they arrived, one of the men pulled a gun and forced the victim and his passenger out. 

While police were responding to the initial call, they received a report of the stolen vehicle speeding down Union Hill. The vehicle eventually stopped in the area of Millman and Webster. Three occupants then ran from police on foot.
