CORE Construction and OSF HealthCare System have a new joint venture called POINTCORE. It’s a relationship that offers the growing healthcare system consistent quality construction standards.

CORE Construction company is also officially adding a specialized construction area to its business portfolio. Quintin Smith is the President of the newly formed group. “We’re providing construction services, with healthcare, with innovation, with technology and providing a new delivery model on how these services can come to make this a better industry as a whole.”

Navigating portions of Peoria could be much easier in the near future. City officials unveiled a Downtown Wayfinding Plan at an open house Tuesday night. It includes a series of directional signs to navigate from the interstate to various destinations in the downtown, city center, riverfront and warehouse districts.

Cooperage Building Receives New Lease on Life

The ribbon cutting for the Cooperage Building in Peoria means there’s another place with historic character for people to live and work in the Warehouse District. The building that was constructed in 1925 started as a door and windows manufacturing company and later was a cooperage factory that made whiskey barrels for Hiram Walker.  Katie Kim is the CEO of the Kim Group. She says it was a 5-million-dollar project that was only possible with the extension of the state and federal historic tax credits:

A new retailer is setting up shop in Peoria’s warehouse district, and it’s bringing a new business model along with it. 

Banu and Mike Hatfield, who are married, own Zion Coffee. Last month, they announced plans to bring their coffee business to the historic Union Depot Hotel building on SW Adams St. 

The first regularly scheduled food truck is set to debut Friday in Peoria’s Warehouse District.  Rhodell Brewery and Murray Place Development agreed to allow a Meat N place food truck to serve the brew pub every Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM.  Building owner Brian Murray says the food selections will complement the craft beers at Rhodell’s, and allow both to boost their business.  The move comes as the Murray Building has plans to eventually house new retail, commercial and residential space.

The City of Peoria celebrated finishing three years of construction work in the downtown Thursday.  Local, state and federal dollars went into revamping Washington, Adams and Jefferson Streets in the Warehouse District.  City Councilman Ryan Spain says the finished roundabout and new roads mark a transition point:

Studio 825 celebrates third anniversary

This week, we're talking with Jeff Embry, operator of Studio 825, at 825 SW Adams Street in Peoria's Warehouse District. The studio is celebrating its third anniversary Friday night with an open house. Embry talks about what he hoped to accomplish by opening a studio that includes multiple artists representing an array of media, and about how his ambitions dovetailed with the city's plans for the Warehouse District. The event is being held in conjunction with CIAO's "First Fridays" studio tours, being held at various locations in Peoria tonight.

Peoria’s Warehouse Historic District is now part of National Register of Historic Places. 

Water street in Peoria will be closed at the intersection of State Street for road work starting Monday August 25th through October.
