The prospect of high school sports returning to competition in the fall could be in jeopardy, according to Limestone High School Athletic Director Brian Clausen.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced Tuesday afternoon it will allow state agencies to take over setting guidelines for returning to play amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, the IHSA first announced its Phase 4 guidelines, limiting physical contact and prohibiting scrimmages against other schools.

PHS Officer Under Fire for Controversial Facebook Post

A resource officer at Peoria High School faces scrutiny, following a controversial Facebook post.

Officer Ryan Schubert posted a comment Mon. that says he wants to urinate on a statue of Martin Luther King Jr. -- though, in more vulgar terms.

In response, Peoria Public School's Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat issued a written statement that says the post "doesn't align with the district’s core values.”

Peoria Police responded to a false alarm call at Peoria High School Wednesday. It was an early dismissal day.


Peoria Police Department Spokeswoman Amy Dotson says police responded about 2:30. She says the remaining faculty and students participating in extracurricular activities were evacuated from the building.

“After that, the officers remained in the building in search of any validity of a threat. Nothing was located.”

City Link hosted its annual public Black History Month celebration at the downtown bus terminal Thurs.

State Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) hosted a workshop for high school students to get a taste of the legislative process Thursday.  46 students selected by their teachers or principals participated in the day-long Youth Advisory Council at Bradley University.

Senator Weaver says one of the workshop’s themes is collaboration.


Peoria Police are still investigating the homicide of 14-year old Tommie Forest as the community mourns the loss of youth.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter Alert near the 24-hundred blocks of North Flora and North Ellis early Saturday morning.

Three additional male juveniles were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries from two scenes.

Forest lived on Sterling and was pronounced dead in the backyard of 24-05 Flora.

PHS plants a tree for Darnell Hunter

  A Flowering Pear Tree stands in front of Peoria High School in memory of Darnell Hunter. The 18 year old PHS Senior died February 20th. A group of his classmates created a scholarship in Hunter’s name and turned out for the tree planning today complements of Sheridan Road Nursery. Principal Brett Elliott says the tree and the Darnell Hunter month of peace are fitting for his memory and the culture-shift undertaken at the school in the last two years.
