An attendee of the Aug. 1 special Peoria Heights Village Board meeting to discuss the future of its fire department tested has positive for COVID-19.

Village Administrator Dennis Sutton said the person diagnosed was wearing a mask and social distancing. That person is now quarantining All attending the Saturday meeting were informed, Sutton said.

A popular coffee spot in Peoria's Warehouse District is set to open another location in Peoria Heights. 

Zion Coffee Co. announced the planned opening of Zion Social at 4616 N. Prospect early next year. The location will include a mix of coffee and craft cocktails. 

"When we considered locations for our new concept, the Heights was a perfect choice based on its long-standing reputation for unique food and dining experiences," said Zion Coffee Co. owners Mike and Banu Hatfield in a statement. 

Zion Coffee Co. first opened in February 2017. 

The manager of the Corn Stock Theatre was hired to run two local arts projects spearheaded by California businessman Kim Blickenstaff.

Blickenstaff, a native of Spring Bay and the CEO of Tandem Diabetes Care in San Diego, is currently undertaking several major revitalization projects in the Greater Peoria area. 

Jenny Parkhurst will manage the Betty Jayne Center for the Performing Arts in Peoria Heights and the Scottish Rite Theater in downtown Peoria.

A Peoria Heights man found in a detached garage Sunday night died after suffering multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the death of 62-year-old William K. Edwards is being investigated as a homicide. Edwards was pronounced dead early Monday morning.

Historic Bakery Gets Historic (New) Address

Trefzger’s Bakery opened in it’s new home yesterday. The official ribbon cutting on the historic bakery’s move to a refurbished old factory building is this morning at 8:30. Trefzger’s uses about 450 pounds of butter cream every day to trim the cakes and ice the cookies. With that large volume, co-owner Jeff Huebner says it was time for Trefzger’s Bakery to move to the larger building in Peoria Heights.

A plaque to fallen servicemen and women was dedicated Saturday in Peoria Heights.   The Gold Star memorial in Tower Park is sponsored by the Peoria Garden Club and America's Gold Star Families - an organization founded by Peorian Patti Smith. Smith formed America's Gold Star Families in 2013.  

The Village of Peoria Heights

The Village of Peoria Heights was selected as the first site in Illinois to receive a Gold Star Memorial Marker honoring families of soldiers who’ve died in battle.


On Thurs., the village says in a news release the not-for-profit Gold Star Families selected the site at Tower Park because it hosts several events throughout the year, and it’s highly visible from Prospect Road. The dedication for the Gold Star marker is August 13th at 10am.

The Village says several Gold Star families are expected to attend.

Peoria Heights dissolves ambulance service

Running Central coming back to Peoria

The Warehouse District in downtown Peoria will soon have a new tenant. The owners of Running Central announced they are re-locating from Peoria Heights back to Peoria as early as April.
