Work on the Murray Baker bridge is proceeding on schedule. The Interstate 74 steel span over the Illinois River closed in late March for structural repairs.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has closed the Interstate 74 bridge in Peoria until the end of October.

The local bus system isn't immune from traffic pressures that will be sparked by the Murray Baker Bridge closure next month.

Reconstruction of the Murray Baker Bridge deck means the heavily traveled Interstate 74 artery will be completely closed in 2020. That’s the proposal outlined by the Illinois Department of Transportation Wednesday.

Peoria Fire and Rescue Divers recovered the body of the man who jumped from the Murray Baker Bridge Thursday morning.

The unidentified man stopped his westbound car on the Murray Baker Bridge about 7:10, exited on the passenger side, continued to bridge wall and jumped. Three more cars traveling westbound then crashed in a pileup. The series of events snarled I-74 traffic in both directions.

Those attending the fireworks Friday on the Illinois Riverfront can expect ramp and bridge closures along I-74.

LaHood gets city street named after him

A former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and long-time Congressman now has a road named after him in the city of Peoria. City officials unveiled the so-called Honorary Secretary Ray LaHood Roadway at the intersection of Main and Monroe streets.
