Yesterday’s primary election results in Peoria mean incumbent Mayor Jim Ardis faces political newcomer, Couri Thomas. Ardis received 52.5 percent of the vote and Thomas 33.3 percent.

Heroin was -- and continues to be -- a major topic of concern in 2016, both nationally and in Peoria. 

 

In July, Mayor Jim Ardis announced the creation of his Community Coalition Against Heroin to look at causes and possible solutions for the increasing cases of overdose and addiction.

Several members of the coalition, including County Sheriff Mike McCoy, are expected to join a televised town hall discussion tonight on WTVP.

A possible ballpark bailout

The City of Peoria is considering its options when it comes to a financial bailout for the Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The council is holding a special meeting next week to discuss options when it comes to public and private funding for the ballpark. Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis says the meeting is to figure out how to make the Peoria Chiefs financially viable long term:
