A New York man was arrested in Peoria after ramming a Bloomington police car on Wednesday morning. 

The Bloomington Police Department said they attempted to arrest 26-year-old David S. Hughes on drug charges when he rammed a squad car blocking the path of the stolen car he was driving. Police said he drove over several signs and damaged other property on his way out of town.

The Illinois State Police spotted Hughes driving west on Interstate 74, but cut off their pursuit. 

A few hours later, he was arrested by Peoria police officers.

The city of Peoria is partnering with Amazon’s Ring to distribute doorbell cameras at a steep discount.

Residents of Peoria will be eligible for a $100 discount on a camera subsidized by the city and Ring at a November 2 event at Northwoods Mall. 

Assistant City Manager Deborah Roethler says the cameras help reduce property crimes. 

“We’ve got example after example of people walking up to a door, they clearly shouldn’t be there, they look at the video camera that’s staring at them, and then they walk away," she said.

A 9-year-old faces five first-degree murder charges in connection with a fatal trailer fire in Goodfield last April.

Woodford County State's Attorney Greg Minger said that he reviewed multiple reports before making the decision to prosecute. 

Kathryn Murray, Jason Wall, and three children ages 2 and under died in the April 6 blaze at Timberline Mobile Home Park.

Katrina Alwood and a child escaped the fire. 

Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman said the fire was intentionally set. He determined the five deaths were homicides.

An 8-year-old girl is expected to recover after she was shot in the leg this morning on Peoria's West Bluff.

A homeless Metamora man faces aggravated battery charges in connection with a stabbing Thursday just north of downtown Peoria. 

Police responded to Hancock and Jefferson just after 4 p.m. to find a man with a stab wound to the arm. He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He's in serious condition as of Friday morning. 

Peoria police arrested 51-year-old Sergio Lopez in connection with the incident.

A 42-year-old man is dead after he was shot in the neck Thursday evening in Peoria's East Bluff.

A registered sexual offender from Canton was arrested for soliciting sex from an underage girl.

The Canton Police Department said Jeremy Mentzer, 28, began talking to the girl on Sept. 2 via social media. Police said he was using a fake name.

Detectives posed as the juvenile girl and got Mentzer to agree to meet at a predetermined location. He was arrested by police when he arrived. 

He was arrested for indecent solicitation of a child, a class 2 felony.

A Peoria police officer is on administrative leave after returning fire during an incident in the East Bluff early Sunday morning.

The Peoria Police Department is seeking a 26-year-old man for his alleged involvement in Thursday's shooting in Central Peoria.

Police said Jyair Williams is connected to the shooting in the 3100 block of N. Isabell. Williams is considered armed and dangerous.

An adult male was found in a backyard nearby with gunshot wounds. His condition is considered life-threatening.

Thomas Jefferson Primary School and St. Philomena School were briefly locked down after the shooting. 

Williams is 6'2", 162 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

A Stark County man was arrested Thursday on child pornography charges.

Rodney A. King, 50, of Wyoming, was arrested for possession and dissemination of child pornography by the Illinois State Police and taken to the Stark County Jail. 

Police seized digital equipment from King's house and vehicle on a search warrant. They found several child pornography items, according to police. 

King is set to make an appearance Friday at the Stark County Courthouse in Toulon.

An adult man is in life-threatening condition after he was shot Thursday morning in Central Peoria. 

Peoria police responded to the 3200 block of N. Isabell just after 7:45 a.m. Officers found a vehicle in the 31oo block with gunfire damage. A man seen near the vehicle fled after spotting police.

Witnesses said they saw a suspect vehicle fleeing the area after the shooting, according to police. 

Police spread out to look for the fleeing man. A gunshot victim was found in the backyard of a house in the 31oo block of N. Twelve Oaks. He was taken to the hospital.

Fourteen-year-old Zaveon Marks has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 16-year-old Zarious Fair.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood is releasing preliminary autopsy results in two recent homicides in the city of Peoria.

Harwood said Theresa Simmons, 63, suffered blunt force trauma to her head, which caused fractures and severe brain bleeding. Simmons died on Aug. 17 after she was found in her home in the 700 block of W. Loucks Ave. on Aug. 12. 

Her son, Jeremy Simmons, is charged with her death. He's being held on $2 million bond in the Peoria County Jail.

Because her body has never been found, there has never been a funeral held for Yingying Zhang. But a memorial service for the visiting scholar from China has being planned, and will involve her family. The service is planned for Monday, August 5 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church at Savoy, 1602 S. Prospect Avenue in Savoy.
