A message from WCBU General Manager R.C. McBride:
WCBU continues to make moves. Literally. We’re officially in our new facility in Morgan Hall on the Bradley campus, which features our on-air studio, newsroom and staff offices. We look forward to hosting an open house in the near future where you can visit the space and meet our staff.
Additionally, the expanded WCBU team is doing terrific work bringing local news to the Peoria area.
Now that WCBU is relocated with new technology, including a new broadcast automation system and new newsroom management software, allowing for shared efficiencies between WGLT and WCBU, we are rolling out several programing additions.
Among them are new music offerings on weekends, including Highway 309, Center Stage, and All Songs Considered, and other new weekend shows like Conversations from the World Cafe, Hidden Brain, and It's Been a Minute with Sam Sanders. On Point and 1A Plus join the weekday evening schedule. All of this is in addition to Marketplace, which returned to WCBU last month, and World Cafe, which debuted over the summer.
WCBU’s program schedule contains all the latest changes. These changes will align the national programming lineups offered by WCBU and WGLT, allowing WCBU to save the $30,000 to 50,000 cost of purchasing and installing a new satellite reception station once our old home at Jobst Hall is torn down, and allowing the two stations to split our NPR interconnection fees 50/50.
As always, thank you for what you do for WCBU. Without listeners, readers, and contributors like you, our public broadcasting service—featuring quality local journalism and intelligent and diverse news and culture from around the world—would cease to function. And we’re still looking to build, with a goal of adding to our news team early in the new year.
