An Illinois resident has died after recently vaping and coming down with a severe respiratory illness.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced the death Friday. A total of 22 people between ages 17 and 38 have been hospitalized after vaping this year.
Cases have been reported in ten counties, including Peoria County. An IDPH spokeswoman declined to break down how many cases are local. A Peoria City/County Health Department spokesperson deferred all comment to IDPH.
State health officials believe there may be links between vapes containing THC and the illness, but have not yet confirmed it.
