Early Voting Delays Continue for Illinois Primary

Feb 16, 2018

Early voting will be delayed at least one more day in Lake County.

Lake County Clerk Carla Wyckoff says election officials had hoped to start Friday, but are awaiting a decision on a statewide candidate's ballot challenge. An appellate court ruled Friday that Democratic candidate for attorney general, Scott Drury, can be on the ballot.

Wyckoff says staff is ready to start preparing ballots and election officials hope to start early voting on Saturday.

The State Board of Elections estimates roughly 30 jurisdictions didn't start early voting Feb. 8 as planned for the Illinois primary. That includes Illinois' four biggest counties and Chicago. Election officials say their list isn't exhaustive or official.

Cook and DuPage counties are waiting as late as Feb. 21. Will County is also delaying.
