Lee Wenger

Radio Information Service Director

Native Peorian Lee Wenger joined WCBU as Membership Manager in the summer of 1996.  Late in 1998 he became an on air host, and was made Director of the WCBU Radio Information Service, a free sub-carrier broadcast service bringing local newspapers, magazines and store fliers to the blind, visually-impaired and print-handicapped throughout central Illinois on special receivers supplied at no cost to the listeners.  (If you or someone you know needs this service, call Lee at (309) 677-3585 or email wenger@fsmail.bradley.edu ).

Over the years, Lee has worked as a professional actor (and all the part-time survival jobs that entails), writer-producer at an ad agency, substitute teacher, piano-mover, box-office manager, choir director and more, and has performed with most of the arts organizations in central Illinois.  Lee and his wife Denise Adams are graduates of Bradley University, as are all three of their adult children.

Peoria Public Radio Executive Director Tom Hunt is retiring today after 52 years in broadcasting, most of it at public radio stations. Hunt talks about his time in the industry with Peoria Public Radio’s Lee Wenger:

Tom Hunt retires today after more than a half-century in the radio broadcast industry. He is also a ham radio operator and we trust he won’t be a stranger to the ‘airwaves’.
