48-year-old Eric “Itchy” Hollis is facing multiple charges after a series of events Wednesday.

Hollis was the suspect in an armed robbery at Marathon Gas Station on Prospect Road about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday. Officers later found his white Lexus that was spotted at the gas station, crashed on Fairholm at Vine.

At 2:45 police were in the 1100 block of Garfield to check the welfare on a female on a domestic dispute. She was outside when police arrived, reporting Hollis had kicked in her door, was armed and still inside.

Peoria Standoff Ends Peacefully

A more than 4-hour police standoff ended peacefully today.

Some in the community are questioning the deadly use of force by Peoria Police over-night. 19-year-old Luis Cruz was shot three-times, including once in the head, arm and leg.

Authorities say a Peoria police officer fatally shot a 19-year-old man who fled from a vehicle after a traffic stop. Luis Cruz died overnight. The shooting happened just after midnight at West Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and south Blaine Street.

The Peoria Police Department is investigating the city's 13th homicide of the year. 20-year-old Terence Stone was found shot in the 900 block of West Nebraska around 9:15 p.m. He died less than hour later at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

Peoria Police Officers Cleared in El Shooting

Peoria County State’s Attorney Jerry Brady has cleared Peoria Police officers of any wrongdoing in the February 1st shooting of Daniel El.

 A Peoria man was stabbed to death yesterday at Parkview Estates Apartments. Police found 29-year-old Kang Abel behind Building H of the Gale Avenue apartments yesterday about 5:00. He was transported to the hospital and died in surgery about an hour later. The preliminary autopsy showed Abel died of two stab wounds to his lower torso.

A man has died following a Wednesday shooting in the East Bluff. 24-year-old Jermaine Jackson was pronounced dead at OSF Medical Center on Thursday afternoon.

Peoria Police are reminding motorists to plan ahead before driving toward the Metro Center area Saturday morning. The local Race for the Cure begins at 8 a.m., and will cause traffic delays at a number of intersections along University, Northmore, Fairmont, Glen, Oak Glen, and Isabel. In addition, parking is banned at Metro Center and the P.N.C parking lots during the race. Thousands of participants and spectators are expected at the annual event sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Police officials say delays should end around 10:30 a.m..

Peoria Police are investigating the death of a 74-year-old Peoria man as a homicide.

Police statewide are targeting distracted driving with special patrols for the rest of the month.

Peoria Police have made an arrest in last weekend's shooting that killed two at a house party.  A 16-year-old was arrested without incident about 7:40 Wednesday night in the 2700 block of West Trewyn.

18 year-old Bradley University pre-med major Nasjay Murry from Chicago and 22-year-old Anthony Polnitz of Peoria were shot and killed about 1:40 Sunday morning at a crowded house party at the corner of Bradley and Western Avenues. Another female Bradley student was injured in that shooting.

Peoria Police says social media posts asserting attempted abductions in the area are false.

In fact police say the posts that started on Friday are absolutely false. Police say they spoke to the original poster and it was determined her Facebook account was hacked. But apparently the modern-day rumor mill had already taken root, as that story and additional ones continued to emerge in slightly varied forms Saturday and Sunday.

A routine traffic stop resulted in a police chase that has left a Peoria Heights man dead and an officer wounded. Three Peoria Police Officers were involved in the fatal shooting, days after six officers were cleared in last September’s fatal shooting of Eddie Russell Jr.

 

Peoria Police Shooting Ruled Justified

  Six Peoria police officers were legally justified when they fatally shot Eddie Russell Jr. outside his mother’s house. Russell was a suspect in a bank robbery last September 20th.

Peoria police have a 29-year-old man in custody for the 2nd homicide of the year.

  A vigil for Eddie Russell Jr. outside Peoria City Hall preceded the regular council meeting. Many who proceeded into the meeting took a knee during the pledge of allegiance.

Peoria Public High Schools were on lockdown this afternoon after reports of a gun at the career center. Students from the other three high schools come and go from Woodruff Career and Technical Center.

Preliminary autopsy results show a woman found inside a burning home over the weekend died of strangulation.

Peoria Police are asking for help in locating the man suspected of a shooting early Sunday morning. Delrick Rutherford is suspected in a shooting that happened in the 2100 block of North Underhill about 2:45 a.m.

Peoria Police Clamp Down On Loud Music

Peoria Police are reminding people of the city’s loud music ordinance in an effort to get out the information ahead of an upcoming enforcement campaign. The ordinance allows police to impound a vehicle on a first offense of playing music that can be heard from a distance of 75 feet or more. The driver can be issued a citation, have their vehicle towed and incur a number of related fees.  The ticket for a second offense is $275 and all subsequent offenses are $525. The citation does not include administrative fees, towing and storage.

The Peoria Police Department is taking a “wait and see” approach before formulating a policy on body cameras.

The Peoria Police Department will begin a pilot program to evaluate the use of body cameras on officers. Three officers on different shifts will use the cameras beginning March 20.

Project manager Denise Backes told Peoria City Council on Tues. that other cities using cameras have seen increased officer performance among other benefits.

Police Seek Help Locating Bank Robbery Suspect

One of the two males suspected of robbing Commerce Bank on North Knoxville in Peoria last week has been identified.  Peoria Police say 28 year-old Tarius D. Ganaway is wanted for armed robbery.
