Jul 6, 2018

The city of Peoria will receive nearly $200 thousand in federal funding to support community programs.

The Corporation for National and Community Service is distributing $11.6 million to help more than 900 AmeriCorps members statewide conduct community projects. It will also assist with college costs and student loans after service completion.

Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth say another $4.8 million in federal money will benefit Serve Illinois. That's the commission that administers AmeriCorps in the state.

The city of Peoria will receive just over $138 thousand for community programs and nearly $60 thousand in education awards.

Overall, sixteen Illinois projects will receive more than $16 million dollars in federal funding. The other projects are in Belleville, Chicago, Dixon, Ina, East St. Louis and Evanston.
