Peoria Police are investigating a fatal car accident at the entrance of Glen Oak Park.
About 1:40 this morning Peoria Police initiated a traffic stop around Peoria and McClure. Dispatch advised the vehicle police were stopping was reported stolen. The driver didn’t stop, reportedly fleeing at a high rate of speed.
The officer terminated the traffic stop and did not pursue the vehicle. But police report the car then increased speed until it was no longer in view. Shortly after, the vehicle was located crashed at McClure and Prospect, near the entrance of Glen Oak Park. An unknown man was seen fleeing the scene. Officers located two additional occupants on the ground. They had been ejected from the vehicle.
Peoria Fire Department and AMT were on scene for the man of an unknown age and 16 year old female. They were both transported to the hospital. But the man later died. The female is in stable condition.
This incident is under investigation.
